Sejahari is a Blaxican multidisciplinary storyteller and father from the West Side of Chicago using his voice to uplift, advocate for, and represent black and brown stories in music, film, theater, spoken word and fashion. In the words of the late John Vietnam Ngyen, writing is his guidance and performance is his purpose. Sejahari has collaborated with some of the most renowned theaters in the US including the Kennedy Center, Steppenwolf Theater, Playwrights Horizons theater and the August Wilson theater on Broadway. He has traveled the world as an artistic ambassador, teaching movement and poetry workshops in Morocco and Colombia. Sejahari is also a nationally acclaimed spoken word artist who has earned a national title for his original written and performance work. Aside from his writing and performance accolades, he has worked as a model for major fashion brands including Steve Madden(print/video), Woolrich(print/video), MCM(social media), Diesel(social media), Adidas Original(social media) and has landed campaigns that have appeared in British Vogue and a time square billboard. He recently produced and starred in his debut short film, Pretty Boy, which will has began its festival run and will continue into 2024. Last year Sejahari became a Marshall Scholar. This scholarship aided him the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom as an American ambassador and receive two masters degrees from any two British universities of choice. After completing his first Masters in Race, Media and Social Justice from Goldsmiths University of London, and he is currently pursuing his second Masters in filmmaking from the London Film Academy. Most recently, he completed a residency at the Southbank Center, the largest center for the arts in the United Kingdom, where he debuted his talents as a rapper and musical producer in the ‘Reframe’ exhibition. He is currently taking on his most ambitious project yet, ‘Primary’ the Visual Mixtape, wherein he will showcase his expertise as a lyricist, musician, fashion guru, dancer and all around storyteller. As he continues to express himself through various artistic outlets, he is interested in how the art-making practice can be used as a tool for healing, community building and liberation.
